StorONE is a revolutionary storage technology that has been designed to deliver a complete portfolio of storage solutions with just one storage engine. This single storage engine provides enterprise-class storage software that offers full functionality, high performance and unmatched data reliability. With more than 50 patents, StorONE is changing the way we think about storage solutions.
So what really makes StorOne different than the dozens of other platforms on the market? It boils down to their three primary innovations.
The first unique innovation that StorONE has implemented is their rewrite of the Storage IO Stack. This improvement in data storage technology allows users to quickly and efficiently access stored information by improving how we interact with storage systems. The rewrite also helps protect against potential malicious attacks as it offers added security features such as encryption and redundancy.
An important, if not the of the most important, feature of the new IO stack is the lack of write cache in the data storage environment. All data is directly written to the media using the DirectWrite feature of StorOne’s data storage engine. The lack of cache in the data storage path drastically simplifies resiliency designs for solutions involving databases and other platforms that are highly susceptible to data corruption. While competitors may argue that a lack of cache would hurt performance, the streamlined IO data storage stack’s efficiencies more than make up for any speed gains that would have been seen from a write cache, allowing for near native media write performance.
In addition to rewriting their data storage IO Stack, StorONE has also rewritten Auto-Tiering, which improves performance when accessing stored data. This feature gives control over how data is allocated across different tiers of storage so that data storage performance is optimized while still maintaining high levels of security and reliability.
Virtual Storage Containers or VSC’s, the name StorOne has given to their new auto-tiering +vRAID technology, allows users to drop faster media into a virtual pool of erasure coding protected media to push up the performance of data storage while giving the biggest bang on storage capacity. VSC’s have the additional benefit that data services such as QoS and security are tied directly to them, allowing for a lot of design flexibility.
... the auto-tiering algorithm benefits from the IO efficiency of the StorONE Engine. The combination of these efforts means the StorONE tiering algorithm can tier from SSD to HDD at 8GB/sec per VOLUME (write update), which is 30TB per hour or ~700TB per day.

Finally, StorONE has rewritten Erasure Coding which protects against disk failure by allowing you to spread your data across multiple disks for redundancy purposes. This ensures that even if one disk fails, you won't lose any valuable information as the other disks will still be able to keep your data safe and secure.
Erasure coding is not a new concept in the storage space, however, StorOne’s implementation (“vRAID”) is special in that all the fat has been trimmed and the thing flies. Also, unlike other data storage system implementations, vRAID allows a mixing of media types and sizes, providing protection across the entire pool. So much so, that days and week long rebuilds on 20TB and larger HDD media drop to three hours or under, drastically reducing the risk associated with using larger format drives for data storage.
